Full S.T.E.A.M. Ahead 5K

Lace-up your shoes and join us for our first annual Full S.T.E.A.M. Ahead 5k! Families, friends, and individuals of all ages are invited to come together to race, run or walk for S.T.E.A.M. education. The South Florida Science Center is a 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to “open every mind to science.” All proceeds from our race will benefit exceptional programming the Science Center provides to a diverse population of families and K-12^th grade students in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Math. The proposed course will start and end by the Science Center front plaza next to Rosie the T-rex and will weave through the scenic layers within Dreher Park. Click here for the course map.

After the event, participants are encouraged to head over to the Science Center for half-off regular admission when they show their bib. This offer is valid for a one-time use the entire month of January!

For the safety of all, please follow the directions of the parking attendants. Parking is available in the main Science Center lot until about 7:00 AM. Additional parking is available across Summit Blvd. to the South end of Dreher Park in lots A, B, & C. Allow 15-20 minutes to walk from outer lots to still arrive at check-in by 7:00AM. All parking is free.

Timing - This race is chip-timed. Your bib will have an electronic chip that starts your timer when you pass the starting line. We do ask that walkers and slower runners stage a little farther back in the pack to allow competitive runners a clear path at the start. Due to insurance considerations - no scooters, skateboards, bicycles, wagons, or pets allowed on the course.

Participants

Any and all ages are welcome to participate in the walk/run but the qualifying timed run age is the following grouped by Male and Female:
Kids: 6-18
Adults: 19-59
Seniors: 60+

The nonqualified participant/spectator age is 0-5 for FREE

6:00AM - Parking Lots Open (enter through Summit Blvd.)

6:00AM-7:00AM - On-site race day registration

6:00AM-7:15AM - Race day packet pick-up & check-in

7:10AM-7:25AM - Welcome and race warm-up

7:30AM - Starting Gun

7:45AM-9:00AM - Post-race refreshments and water

8:30AM-9:00AM - Awards ceremony on Science Centers Front Entrance Plaza

9:00AM - Science Demo

Race Packet Early Pickup

Thursday, January 9th OR Friday, January, 10th 3:00PM-6:00PM - All runners who pick up their packet during race packet early pickup at the Science Center's main entrance will receive one complimentary Science Center admission pass valid for three months from the date of pickup. If you received your packet in advance, you do not need to check-in. Please be in the starting line area by 7:20 AM with your bib on. Pins are available near the race-day tables

Save time by filling out our Liability Release Form prior to race day found here. You must present it at check-in or at early pickup. NOTE: If you are picking up for someone else you will need to have the signed liability waiver printed and signed in advance for each person you are picking up for.
