MODERNIZING MEDICINE® HELPS TO BRING OUR BODY TO SOUTH FLORIDA

Prominent data-driven health IT company to sponsor segment of exhibit

(WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.) - The beauty of the body is more than skin deep. That's what Boca Raton-based health IT company, Modernizing Medicine, believes, and they're working to help foster their fascination and love for the human anatomy by teaming up with the South Florida Science Center and Aquarium to present Our Body: The Universe Within. The blockbuster experience runs from October 22, 2016 through April 23, 2017 at the West Palm Beach Science Center, in partnership with Jupiter Medical Center and Palm Healthcare Foundation, Inc.

“The human body is a fascinating work of art,” said Daniel Cane, CEO and co-founder of Modernizing Medicine and a SFSCA board member. “As with any masterpiece, the more you know about the intricate details involved in the creation and functioning of it, the more you can acknowledge its intrinsic value.” When Cane learned that the Science Center was bringing the world-renowned Our Body exhibit to South Florida, he saw the opportunity to give back to the community by sponsoring the exhibit’s Musculoskeletal Gallery.

One of the largest sections of the exhibit, the gallery fits perfectly with Modernizing Medicine’s mission to transform how healthcare information is created, consumed and utilized to increase efficiency and improve outcomes. The company's flagship EMA™ electronic health record (EHR) system is a data-driven, specialty-specific program used by over 11,000 medical providers across the United States. One of the systems most unique aspects is the Interactive Anatomical Atlas™, a zoomable, 3D layered way to manipulate body images. Physicians can pinch, zoom and select over 45,000 anatomically unique locations on and in the body. Plus, users can peel back the skin to reveal the muscles, joints, tendons and organs making it easy to document visits and educate patients.

In addition to providing doctors with tools to transform the clinical, financial and operational aspects of their medical practices, Modernizing Medicine is happy to help exhibit-goers better understand the muscular and skeletal systems presented in Our Body. The bodies featured in the Musculoskeletal Gallery showcase how involuntary muscles, voluntary muscles and our skeletal system work in concert to allow the human body to move like a well-oiled machine – much like EMA does for healthcare practices. “We hope visitors will leave with a refreshed appreciation of their own bodies to sustain long and happy lives,” said Cane.

Overall, the “Our Body” exhibit features 200 real-life human specimens will make themselves at home in the Science Center’s fascinating, artful, educational and dignified display. Visitors will tour more than 5,000-square-feet of three-dimensional human bodies, specimens and organs, which were preserved using a revolutionary process known as polymer impregnation. The process leaves even the finest, most delicate tissue structure virtually intact, down to the microscopic sphere, making the process invaluable for medical study. Guests will connect on a very personal level with these human artifacts as they use them to better understand their own bodies.

Our Body: The Universe Within was developed and provided by the Anatomical Sciences & Technologies Foundation in Hong Kong. The specimens in the exhibition were provided by various accredited Chinese universities, medical schools, medical institutions, research centers and laboratories to further the goals of the Anatomical Sciences & Technologies Foundation which are to promote educational and medical research of the human body.

The South Florida Science Center and Aquarium is located at 4801 Dreher Trail North in West Palm Beach and is open Monday – Friday from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., and on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Admission to the South Florida Science Center and Aquarium during Our Body: The Universe Within is $16.95 for adults, $12.95 for children ages 3 to 12 and $14.95 for seniors aged 60 and older. Science Center members and children under 3 are free. Planetarium shows are not included in general admission pricing.

The mission of the South Florida Science Center and Aquarium is to “open every mind to science” and it features a year-round showcase of more than 50 hands-on educational exhibits, a 10,000 gallon fresh and salt water aquarium- featuring both local and exotic marine life, a digital planetarium, conservation research station, Florida exhibit hall, Pre-K focused “Discovery Center” and an interactive Everglades exhibit. In an effort to continue to meet the informal science education needs of the community, the Science Center will soon open an 18-hole mini-golf course, the “Conservation Course,” and more than 25 interactive exhibits in the Science Center’s “backyard.”
