FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

‘TIS THE SEASON FOR SCIENCE
“Snow” better place for the holidays than the South Florida Science Center & Aquarium

(West Palm Beach, Fla.)  The South Florida Science Center and Aquarium is heating up the holidays with seasonally-themed activities and special events through January 8, including “Make-N-Take Snow,” festive planetarium shows and winter camps during school breaks to help capture the spirit of the holidays in Florida. Santa’s helpers of all ages can enjoy the merry month of seasonal offerings.

The highlight of the season is “Noon Year’s Eve,” a family event to help ring in the New Year. Staying up to bring in 2017 will be easy with a midday dance party, science crafts, themed activities and food. A dry ice apple cider toast at noon will usher in the New Year. The event runs from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday, December 31. Event is included with paid admission and is free for members.

“Only at the Science Center can you see snow in south Florida,” jokes Lew Crampton, President and CEO of the Science Center. “We want to be the place to go this season to explore all the wonders of winter. We strive to keep little ones interested in science, and themed activities are a great way to keep children of all ages engaged in education, even when they’re taking a break from school,” Crampton said.

Holiday activities include daily showings of Let it Snow planetarium show at 3 p.m. Weekend shows are offered at noon. Guests can be serenaded by a variety of favorites from Frank Sinatra and Chuck Berry to Burl Ives and Brenda Lee with a finale by Trans Siberian Orchestra. The soundtrack is enhanced with thematic animation, laser imagery and special effects in the state-of-the-art planetarium.

Five-day science and tech ventures will be offered. “’Tis the Season for Science” runs December 26-30. Children ages 4-12 will get to conduct the coolest experiments in town, like using liquid nitrogen and dry ice to create frosty potions. “Weather the Storm” is offered January 2-6, 2017. Guests ages 7-14 will put their survival skills to the test with an unpredictable week of winter mayhem. Using MinecraftEDU software, campers will be pitted against the elements as they learn about extreme weather, natural disasters and the only blizzard in the history of south Florida.

Guests can also experience the blockbuster exhibit, “Our Body: The Universe Within” which features real human bodies on display, and even play a round of mini golf on the new Conservation Course.

Admission to the South Florida Science Center and Aquarium is $16.95 for adults, $12.95 for children aged 3 to 12, $14.95 for seniors aged 60 and older.  Science Center members and children under 3 are free.  Planetarium shows and miniature golf are not included in general admission pricing.

The mission of the South Florida Science Center and Aquarium is to “open every mind to science” and the indoor/outdoor venue features more than 50 hands-on educational exhibits, a 10,000 gallon fresh and salt water aquarium- featuring both local and exotic marine life, a digital planetarium, conservation research station, Florida exhibit hall, Pre-K focused “Discovery Center,” an interactive Everglades exhibit and an 18-hole Conservation Course – an outdoor putting course with science-focused education stations.
