SPRING INTO SCIENCE AT ANNUAL SPRING BREAK CAMP
South Florida Science Center and Aquarium’s spring break camp takes small-scientists on an adventure
(West Palm Beach, Fla.) Spring into science next week at the South Florida Science Center and Aquarium’s annual Spring Science Adventure. Starting on Monday, March 17, 2014, the week-long camp will turn mini-Einstein’s into chemists, engineers, paleontologists and astronomers – all in just a few days!
“The Science Center is always a buzzing time during spring break,” said Lew Crampton, Science Center CEO. “We certainly have something for everyone with workshops including a variety of experiments and crafts to keep campers engaged and entertained for the entire week. It is never too early to ‘open every mind to science’ and we see this opportunity as a way to reach children at a young age with educational, but most importantly, fun activities!”
The South Florida Science Center and Aquarium, formerly known as the South Florida Science Museum, recently completed a $5 million expansion and renovation, and Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition is currently open in the Center’s Quantum Hall of Exploration. With a new mission to “open every mind to science,” the Science Center now features more than 50 hands-on educational exhibits, an 8,000 gallon fresh and salt water aquarium- featuring both local and exotic marine life, a digital planetarium, Science on a Sphere, conservation research station, Florida exhibit hall and an interactive Everglades exhibit.
Campers will transform into chemists by blowing up balloons using candy concoctions; learn how to build bridges like engineers; act as paleontologists and excavate fossils; and become astronomers while viewing the sun through sunspotter telescopes. Additional scientific activities include: making a working heart pump, pasta skeletons, edible oceans, t-rex tooth castings and modeling the phases of the moon using an edible favorite – Oreo cookies!
Spring Science Adventure runs from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. daily, with extended hours of exploration available from 7:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. for an additional daily fee. Campers can enjoy a full week for $235 for non-members or $210 for Science Center members. For questions or additional information, please call (561) 832-2026 or email programs@sfsciencecenter.org
